The Positive Minds Program

What is it?

The Positive Minds program (PMP) is a school-based mental health education program that provides students the knowledge, tools, and resources to bring about positive change in their lives. PMP is facilitated by licensed mental health professionals or candidates for licensure, to empower students with the confidence needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

How are we different?

The Positive Minds Program sets itself apart from other school-based educational programs through the use of Recreational Therapy techniques. Facilitators will engage students in learning by using interactive games, crafts, and team building exercises. NO POWERPOINTS!

Our main goal:

To equip students with a strong understanding of positive mental health, provide them with a tool box of new skills to aid them in living a healthy lifestyle, and decrease the stigma surrounding mental health in our community.

Learning objectives:

  1. Understand how to maintain positive mental health
  2. Understand common mental conditions and their treatments
  3. Decrease stigma
  4. Learn coping skills that fit their individual needs
  5. Enhance self-advocacy abilities

Why is this important for your students?

Statistics gathered from the National Alliance on Mental Illness estimate one-in-five youth worldwide will experience mental illness before age of 25. This makes childhood and adolescence a crucial time for the promotion, prevention, and intervention of mental health.

HOW YOU CAN BRING PMP TO YOUR SCHOOL:

PMP Classroom Series

  • Seven-week classroom-based educational program
  • Once-a-week, in-depth education about common mental health diagnoses and treatments, tools to maintain positive mental health, community resources, and how to decrease stigma
  • Allows facilitators the opportunity to build rapport with students and opportunity for discussion

  • Attendees will learn:
    • Common mental health diagnoses and treatment
    • Basic tools to maintain positive mental health
    • Community resources
    • How to decrease stigma
  • Topics are customizable if requested
